Peninsula’s next meeting – 16 February 2012
The next Peninsula meeting will be held on Thursday, 16 February 2012 at the German Club (previously called Tafelberg Tavern), Roodehek Terrace, Gardens from 5:30 pm until 7:45 pm. The meeting will be the Club’s International Competition, which will see club members competing in “Prepared”, “Evaluation” and “Table Topics” contests at club level.

Peninsula’s next meeting – 24 November 2011 – Red, White & Green!
The next Peninsula meeting will be held on Thursday, 24 November 2011 at the German Club (previously called Tafelberg Tavern), Roodehek Terrace, Gardens from 18:30 pm until 21:15 pm. The meeting theme is “Red, White and Green!” All are invited to wear something festive or red, white or green.
Come along to Peninsula’s final meeting of the year. We are going to be having a year end celebration. Storyteller, John Little Bear will be our special guest and will entertain us with stories

achieve goals and improve your speaking skills.
Dr Petro Janse van Vuuren will join us as a guest speaker. She will be speaking on the topic “Grow your Voice to Speak with Confidence”.

GROW YOUR VOICE TO SPEAK WITH CONFIDENCE
Do you appear confident and competent as you speak?
Do you sound inviting and engaging?
Does your audience experience that you care both about your message and about them?
There are only two things that can interfere with your ability to answer yes to all three these questions: tension in your body and fear in your heart. When your body knows what to do, it can help you control your feelings and focus your mind.
As with training for a marathon, your body needs to unlearn bad habits and relearn new ones so that speaking invitingly and confidently becomes automatic.
Petro will share with you three basic principles for using your voice to invite rather than invade or worse, just fade:
· a good posture that helps you relax and communicate confidence
· using your breath to control your voice and your nerves
· producing a rich warm voice that invites attention and instils trust
Petro Janse van Vuuren (PhD) has been training and coaching voice work for the last 18 years, both as a trainer of actors and presentation-skills teacher. She honed her skills first as school drama teacher and then as actor and director at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
